A Short Bio

I am your IBEST support instructor, Jacquie George, and I have been an ESL teacher for almost 35 years -- the last 30 at Seattle Central. In addition to Seattle Central, I have taught at many schools up and down the West Coast of the United States, including St. Martin's College in Lacey, WA, San Diego State University, the University of California at San Diego, Washington State University and both campuses of MiraCosta Community College in Oceanside, CA and San Elijo, CA. I started my teaching career at Washington State University when I was only 23. So, I have spent the majority of my life teaching. Thankfully, I love my job.

My Teaching Philosophy

Very simply, I love learning, and I want you to love it, too. As a teacher, it is my plan to help you become an independent learner. I treat education as a lifetime activity, which includes all of your previous experiences as well as those to come. I want you to integrate your life experiences outside of school with your experiences in class. Education is a process – a lifelong process. Classroom activities will be more student-centered rather than instructor-centered. As a teacher, I believe that you are responsible for your own learning. I can’t make you learn, but I can provide you with opportunities to do so. I promise to use materials that are interesting and that can help you build your English language skills.
